Why Do Dogs Howl During Full Moon. On a darker night Rover might not see the squirrel dart up the tree just after midnight. Pay attention to what changes in your dog as a dramatic change in behaviour can often be attributed to full moons. They do tend to howl more as darkness is falling or morning is coming. Do dogs really howl more at a full moon.
There is an argument that the lunar cycle has an impact on human behavior. When an animal is upset during the Full Moon they tend to be restless. Surely you dont believe just humans have a calendar. So each time you play that certain song he howls. On a darker night Rover might not see the squirrel dart up the tree just after midnight. Typically at the daycare we see extreme changes 2 days before and 2 days after a full moon but each dog is different.
Wolves are so closely associated with the full moon that folklore links the emergence of werewolves to full moons and wolves howling at the moon.

If the moon is young it is possible that due to the gravity of the Moon and the Sun it can affect the dog howl. The only time my old dog ever howled was when we got separated in the woods.
